Apple has officially released the final version of iOS 27.1, which is exclusively available for the newly launched iPhone Duo foldable smartphone. The device comes with the operating system pre-installed, though users must perform an additional update during the initial setup process.
The update notes for iOS 27.1 are minimal, focusing solely on general stability improvements and bug fixes. Apple has confirmed that this specific release does not include any security patches. The firmware is currently available for download via IPSW for both users and developers.
For other compatible iPhone models, Apple has bypassed the iOS 27.1 release entirely. The company has instead moved forward with the development of iOS 27.2 and has already issued the Release Candidate version to users. This version is also compatible with the iPhone Duo.
Industry analysts suggest that the exclusive nature of iOS 27.1 was a strategic move to prevent the premature disclosure of software features designed specifically for the iPhone Duo's foldable screen. By restricting the system, Apple aimed to maintain confidentiality until the device's market debut.
Apple plans to release the official version of iOS 27.2 next week. Once this update is deployed, all supported iPhone models, including the iPhone Duo, will be synchronized under a unified software version, ending the period of fragmented system releases.
