Apple officially launched its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, on October 23. This release marks the company's entry into the foldable device market, competing with manufacturers like Samsung and Google.
John Ternus, who became Apple CEO in September, led the launch event at the Apple Domain Northside store in Austin, Texas. He arrived at 9:00 AM local time to open the doors for the first customers.
Deirdre O'Brien, Apple's Senior Vice President of Retail, accompanied Ternus during the Austin event. This appearance served as one of the first major public engagements for Ternus in his new role.
The company deviated from its tradition of holding the primary launch event at the Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York. Instead, Greg Joswiak and Vanessa Trigub hosted the opening ceremony there.
Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo began on October 16. Following a one-week pre-order period, the device became available for purchase and delivery at Apple retail locations worldwide.
