Judge Edward Davila has granted Apple permission to expand the scope of evidence collection in its ongoing lawsuit against OpenAI and io Products. The legal action centers on allegations that two former employees, Chang Liu and Tang Tan, misappropriated trade secrets from the company.

The court will allow Apple to access specific internal documents and employee testimonies. This includes records of Chang Liu's usage of ChatGPT, Claude, and Codex, as well as information regarding devices used to access or store Apple's confidential data. The scope covers technical areas such as battery technology, power management, and metal surface finishing.

The judge denied several of Apple's broader requests, including demands for detailed information regarding OpenAI's own devices and accounts, as well as internal investigation records. The defendants have been granted a maximum of 14 days to submit the required documentation and respond to Apple's inquiries.
