Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the iPhone Duo. The device, priced from $1,999, features a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen. It is powered by the A20 Pro chip, supports up to 2TB of storage, and includes Apple Pencil compatibility alongside split-screen multitasking capabilities.

The iPhone Duo measures 11.3mm in thickness when folded and weighs 254 grams. In comparison, established Chinese models like the Huawei Mate X7, Oppo Find N6, and Vivo X Fold6 are lighter and thinner. For instance, the Oppo Find N6 weighs approximately 225 grams and measures 8.93mm in thickness when folded.

While Chinese manufacturers have focused on hardware iterations such as reducing weight and crease visibility, Apple emphasizes its ecosystem integration. The company highlights the A20 Pro chip and iOS optimization as key differentiators, aiming to position the foldable form factor as a tool for productivity rather than just a hardware novelty.

Chinese competitors continue to advance their own foldable lineups with features like AI-driven translation, multi-device collaboration, and desktop-style multitasking. Companies such as Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo are already exploring next-generation designs, including tri-fold configurations, to move beyond standard book-style folding mechanisms.
