Starting October 8, Apple changed the update interface for iPhone users currently running iOS 26. The latest iOS 27.0.1 update now appears as the primary recommendation in the Software Update section of the Settings menu.

Previously, Apple prioritized iOS 26.7.1 as the default update, relegating iOS 27 and its subsequent versions to the 'Also Available' section at the bottom of the screen. This shift signals a more aggressive push to transition users to the latest operating system generation.

Despite the change in interface priority, Apple has not mandated the installation of iOS 27. Users who prefer to remain on the older system can still install iOS 26.7.1, which continues to receive essential security patches.

Apple officially released iOS 27 on September 14, 2026. As of now, the company has not disclosed any official adoption rates or upgrade statistics, leaving the actual global penetration of the new system unconfirmed.
