Apple has reached an agreement with European antitrust regulators to modify its App Tracking Transparency (ATT) system. The company will allow developers in the European Union to display alternative consent screens that provide more context regarding data usage, aiming to make these prompts less intimidating for users.
Previously, Apple required third-party apps to show warnings about potential privacy risks, while its own applications could access ecosystem data without such prompts. Under the new rules, developers can include links explaining how and why they collect personal data, specifically for personalized advertising purposes.
These changes apply to applications distributed in Germany, France, Italy, Poland, and Romania. Apple also stated that third-party apps will be required to re-request user consent in the EU one year after the initial choice was made on the ATT screen.
