Apple has increased the pricing for its current smartphone lineup, adding $100 to the cost of each model. This adjustment affects the iPhone 16, iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17e. The price changes were implemented in the company's online store simultaneously with the announcement of the new iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone Duo models.
Following the update, the base iPhone 16 is now priced at $799, while the iPhone 17e starts at $699. The standard iPhone 17 now costs $899, and the iPhone Air is available starting from $1099. Concurrently, Apple has officially discontinued the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max versions.
The company attributes this price hike to a severe shortage of memory chips and storage components. This supply constraint is driven by high demand from firms developing infrastructure for artificial intelligence and cloud services. Former CEO Tim Cook described the current component scarcity as a unique challenge, noting he has not encountered such a scale of issues in over 40 years.
