Anthropic allocated $2.7 million for the personal security of its CEO, Dario Amodei, during the previous year. This expenditure is part of a broader trend where executives at major artificial intelligence firms face increasing security risks and hostile attention.
The company has faced specific security incidents, including an intruder entering its lobby with threats of violence against an executive and a threatening message delivered through the Claude AI model. In response, Anthropic has established 24/7 security at its facilities and is actively hiring for protective services leadership roles.
Beyond security costs, Dario Amodei received a total compensation package of $18 million last year, which is largely comprised of company equity. This structure reflects a common practice in the AI sector where executive pay is heavily tied to stock performance rather than cash salaries.
Anthropic's security spending remains lower than that of other major tech firms, such as Meta, which reportedly spent over $25 million on security for Mark Zuckerberg in a recent year. Data indicates that median security spending for S&P 500 executives has risen significantly, particularly within the technology and finance sectors.
