Anthropic has launched a paid residency program focused on AI safety research. The initiative targets experienced technical professionals, including professors in quantitative fields, startup founders, and staff engineers. Applicants do not need a background in machine learning or a PhD to participate in the program.
The residency offers compensation ranging from $350,000 to $500,000 on an annualized basis, prorated according to the duration of the stay. Placements last between six weeks and six months. Participants receive mentorship, access to Claude models, and GPU compute resources.
The program includes remote options for shorter placements, while longer terms may require a presence in San Francisco. Anthropic will provide visa sponsorship for residents staying three months or longer. The deadline for applications is November 22, 2026, with offers expected in January 2027.
This initiative coincides with a period of growth for the company, which reported approximately $17 billion in revenue for the third quarter of 2026. Anthropic is currently preparing for a planned IPO and continues to expand its research bench through various fellowships and academies.
