Anthropic has officially filed for an IPO with the SEC, planning to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. The registration statement reveals significant long-term financial commitments for cloud computing power, totaling approximately $265.5 billion.
The company is obligated to pay $114.5 billion to Google by July 2033, $110 billion to Amazon by April 2036, and $44.9 billion to Microsoft by May 2033. These payments are required regardless of actual infrastructure usage or company profitability.
Anthropic reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of the year, with 80% of this income derived from consumption-based models rather than fixed subscriptions. The company warns that a default on these cloud contracts could trigger cross-default clauses, potentially leading to early debt repayment and asset enforcement.
In the event of a default, shareholders are last in line for repayment, which could result in a total loss of investment for IPO participants. As of the end of June, Anthropic held $131.7 billion in cash and short-term investments.
Despite financial risks, the company reported a 1,368% year-over-year revenue increase in the second quarter. Anthropic also recorded $974 million in operating profit during that same period, marking its first profitable quarter out of the last six.
