Anthropic has introduced a new /storage command for its Claude desktop application, designed to help users manage local disk space usage. The feature allows users to view total storage consumption and remove inactive data, including unused worktrees and tasks that have remained idle for at least 30 days.

The tool categorizes storage usage into Cowork tasks, Code sessions, caches, and a core runtime environment. While the runtime environment is permanent and occupies approximately 9.8 GB of disk space, users can delete associated transcripts and outputs from stale tasks and sessions to free up space.

Users can access the management tool by typing /storage within the Cowork or Code tabs or by navigating through the Settings menu. The feature is available in Claude desktop version v3.1623.0 or later for macOS and Windows, with beta support currently provided for Linux systems.
