Anthropic has released a report detailing the use of its Claude AI model by Iranian security and paramilitary units. According to the findings, these organizations utilized the technology to monitor thousands of individuals and identify accounts belonging to opposition members and the diaspora.
The report also highlights a separate operation connected to the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK). In this instance, the group employed AI tools to impersonate activists and compile profiles of specific individuals located within Iran.
These activities are described as part of broader state intelligence efforts to suppress dissent and manage public perception. The deployment of AI for such surveillance reflects an escalation in internal security measures and the use of sophisticated digital tools by state actors.
