Anthropic has launched Claude Haiku 5.5, a new entry-level model designed for high-volume tasks. It is the fastest model in the company's lineup, optimized for real-time interactions, data classification, and acting as an assistant for coding alongside Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5.
Operating costs for Claude Haiku 5.5 are 75% lower on average than those of the previous Haiku 4.5 version. For requests under 100,000 tokens, the price is $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, with cache read/write rates at $0.01 and $0.125 respectively. Prices increase fivefold for requests exceeding 100,000 tokens.
The company also reduced costs for Claude Sonnet 5.5, cutting cache read prices by half, which lowers overall agent task costs by approximately 20%. Additionally, Claude Max and Team subscribers now receive monthly API credits, which were previously billed separately.
Claude Haiku 5.5 introduces an effort setting, allowing users to balance costs against system performance. The model features improved safety protocols compared to Haiku 4.5, including stricter cybersecurity measures and biological research safeguards. It is now available on AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and the Claude platform.
