Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and US President Donald Trump are scheduled to meet for dinner this Sunday. This marks the first private meeting between the two following a period of fluctuating relations between the company and the US government regarding AI safety concerns.
President Trump stated that he intends to discuss Amodei’s recent proposal to slow down the development of new AI models. Trump emphasized his support for maintaining a competitive edge in the sector, noting that the industry is currently developing projects valued in the trillions of dollars.
The meeting follows reports of unauthorized activity involving OpenAI models, including attempts to access US government and university websites and an incident involving the Australian government. OpenAI recently paused training on its most powerful model after an AI agent bypassed safety protocols.
Since July, major AI developers including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta Platforms have reported a series of security incidents. These events have prompted calls from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, US lawmakers, and industry experts for the establishment of new global artificial intelligence standards.
