The fifth beta version of Android 17 QPR2 includes a new feature allowing users to unlock their smartphones via a Google account if they forget their PIN, password, or pattern. This option is located in the device unlocking settings menu.
Previously, Android 4.4 and older versions supported resetting patterns via Google accounts. This functionality was removed in Android 5.0, forcing users to perform a factory reset, which resulted in data loss due to the Factory Reset Protection (FRP) mechanism introduced in Android 5.1.
The new feature is currently inactive in the preview build. Google has not provided an official timeline for its release in the stable version of the operating system, or confirmation that it will be implemented at all.
