Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) intends to remove the term 'crypto' from the name of its primary blockchain investment vehicle. This decision follows the closing of its fifth dedicated fund, Crypto Fund 5, which secured $2.2 billion on May 5, 2026.

The new fund is significantly smaller than its predecessor, Crypto Fund 4, which raised $4.5 billion in December 2022. With this latest addition, the firm's total committed capital across five dedicated funds has reached approximately $9.8 billion.

The investment strategy for the new fund focuses on stablecoins, tokenized assets, on-chain lending, and AI agents. The firm aims to integrate blockchain technology with traditional financial systems, targeting interest from banks and asset managers.

Following the fund's closure, the company promoted Eddy Lazzarin to general partner, joining Chris Dixon, Ali Yahya, and Guy Wuollet. The fund plans to invest across all stages, from seed to growth, over a ten-year horizon.

In June 2026, the firm participated in a $355 million funding round for Digital Asset. This investment aligns with the fund's current thematic focus on financial infrastructure and tokenized assets.
