AMG Lithium has launched its new Performance Lab, PerLa, in Frankfurt, Germany. The facility focuses on testing sulfide solid electrolytes within complete laboratory cells to support collaborative development with customers. The laboratory space has expanded by 250 square metres, reaching a total of approximately 1,100 square metres.
The laboratory features a glovebox line designed to replicate the full manufacturing process of laboratory cells under inert conditions. This includes electrode paste production, coating, assembly, and pouch cell packaging. The facility is equipped with over 200 test stations for electrochemical analysis, allowing for material testing under application-relevant conditions.
While AMG Lithium is scaling its development capabilities, the company has not disclosed specific details regarding customer projects or production timelines for solid electrolytes. The firm aims to bridge the gap between material innovation and cell validation, though it does not currently plan to engage in industrial-scale cell production.
Simultaneously, the company is expanding its production of battery-grade lithium salts in Bitterfeld-Wolfen. The project involves an investment of €180 million, supported by €36 million in funding from the German STARK initiative. The goal is to reach an annual capacity of 20,000 tonnes of lithium compounds, sufficient for approximately 34 GWh of battery production.
