AMD has introduced a new driver for the Linux kernel, known as the AMD Overclocking Driver (AOD), designed to enable processor overclocking capabilities within the Linux environment.
The driver allows users to adjust power management settings, including Package Power Tracking (PPT), Thermal Design Current (TDC), and Electrical Design Current (EDC) limits.
Additionally, the software provides functionality to toggle Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) and enables monitoring of current memory frequency, though it does not support changing memory speeds.
Changes to power and energy settings currently require a system reboot to take effect. The driver was initially submitted as a WMI-based patch on October 11, 2026.
While the current feature set is limited, the release serves as a foundation for independent developers to build specialized overclocking utilities for AMD Ryzen processors on Linux.
