According to reports from industry leaker Kepler_L2, AMD is developing a proprietary neural rendering technology for its upcoming RDNA 5 architecture. This feature, referred to as Neural Lighting, is intended to compete directly with Nvidia's DLSS 5 technology.
The leaker suggests that the new functionality will likely be exclusive to the RDNA 5 platform due to the high computational load required for such operations. AMD has not yet officially confirmed the existence of the RDNA 5 architecture.
Kepler_L2 proposed that AMD could differentiate its approach by allowing AI models to access raw game data, such as geometry and depth buffers, rather than relying on reconstruction. He also suggested separating lighting calculations from shading processes.
Estimates for the release of RDNA 5 hardware vary significantly, with projections ranging from mid-2027 to early 2028. Given these timelines, the technology is likely in the early stages of development.
