Ambrosia Energy is constructing a 10 GWh battery manufacturing facility near Austin, Texas. The plant will span 150,000 square feet, with the company aiming to achieve full production capacity within two to three years.
The startup focuses on providing power for off-grid data centers using a combination of solar panels and battery storage. This configuration allows for continuous operation by charging batteries during the day and discharging them at night or during cloudy weather.
The company plans to launch its first commercial power plant in West Texas later this year. This facility will integrate 300 megawatts of solar capacity with 660 megawatt-hours of battery storage to provide 30 megawatts of continuous power with a 99.3% uptime target.
Ambrosia Energy aims to maintain profitability at a cost of $100 per megawatt-hour. The company reduces expenses by simplifying components and manufacturing battery packs in-house, achieving a cost approximately 1.3 times that of a bare cell.
The startup previously operated a pilot plant that generated 200 kilowatts of power continuously for over 100 days. Founders Ben Longmier and Sara Spangelo, who previously established and sold the satellite startup Swarm to SpaceX, lead the company.
