Amazon is evolving its Seller Assistant tool from a simple chatbot into a comprehensive operating system for third-party merchants. According to M. B. Westmoreland, vice president of Worldwide Selling Partner Experience, the platform now manages hundreds of capabilities, including inventory, pricing, advertising, and compliance.
The system utilizes long-term memory to build a personalized understanding of each seller's business goals and preferences. Merchants can set up automations using plain language, allowing the AI to monitor product ratings, track competitive openings, and adjust advertising spending on a 24/7 basis.
Amazon is introducing a plugin that integrates its seller intelligence with external platforms, including Amazon Quick and Anthropic’s Claude. This strategy allows the company to maintain its role as the core execution layer while letting merchants use their preferred interfaces.
The architecture emphasizes human oversight, as sellers must explicitly approve AI-generated recommendations and actions. Data remains within Amazon’s infrastructure, and users retain the ability to revoke plugin access at any time to ensure control over their business operations.
