Amazon has restricted Meta Platforms Inc.’s Muse AI agent from accessing its e-commerce platform. The decision follows concerns regarding the agent's ability to view user account pages and purchase history, which Amazon characterizes as unauthorized third-party access to customer accounts.
Meta launched the Muse mobile app in the U.S. earlier this month. The application reached 730 000 downloads in five days and became the most popular free app on the App Store by last Friday. The company currently offers a free version alongside two paid editions with higher rate limits.
Despite the ban, Meta shares closed 11.43% higher. Shares of Intel, AMD, and Arm also saw double-digit growth, as these companies provide the CPUs necessary for AI agent operations. Market analysts suggest that investors do not anticipate the Amazon restriction to significantly impact the agent's popularity.
Meta is currently working to improve data protection for Muse. The agent currently uses a Muse Secure VM to isolate instances from Meta's infrastructure and a Sentinel agent to monitor sensitive actions. A new Muse Confidential VM, designed to prevent Meta from accessing user data, is expected to roll out later this year.
