Amazon has requested that Meta remove its Muse AI agent from the Amazon marketplace. The retailer claims that Meta did not inform them about the agent accessing the platform, and that the tool fails to identify itself while browsing.
Amazon expressed concerns regarding privacy and security, citing the potential capture and storage of customer credentials. Meta previously stated that Muse does not have visibility into user passwords or payment methods, as data is stored securely.
The companies maintain existing partnerships, including a multi-billion dollar deal signed in April for Meta to run AI workloads on Amazon cloud services. Additionally, Amazon products have been available for purchase on Facebook and Instagram since 2023.
Amazon has recently taken steps to block other third-party shopping agents, including those from Google and OpenAI, and filed a lawsuit against Perplexity regarding its Comet browser. Amazon is currently in discussions with Meta regarding the Muse agent.
