Amazon has officially blocked Meta's Muse AI agent from accessing its online store. Users attempting to use the tool for shopping on the platform began receiving notifications on Sunday stating that the agent's activity violates Amazon's Conditions of Use.
The retailer claims that Meta failed to notify them about Muse's integration. Amazon expressed concerns regarding security and privacy, noting that the AI agent does not properly identify itself during browsing sessions and may potentially capture sensitive customer credentials.
Meta previously stated that Muse cannot access secure login details or payment card information. However, reports have surfaced suggesting the agent can view user message contents without explicit permission. Amazon maintains that third-party services should operate transparently.
This move is part of Amazon's broader strategy to restrict external AI services from interacting with its platform. The company previously sued Perplexity in November for its Comet shopping feature, though a judge ruled in favor of Perplexity in August.
Additionally, Amazon has modified its confirmation emails since July. These messages now omit specific product names and images to prevent external AI services from mining customer data.
