Amazon has blocked the Meta AI agent Muse from accessing its e-commerce platform. The retailer claims the tool poses security and privacy risks by failing to properly identify itself as an automated bot, which violates the company's service terms.
Amazon requested that Meta remove its platform from the Muse app's capabilities, but the request was denied. Amazon alleges that the agent collects user credentials without disclosing its nature or developer information. Meta maintains that the agent operates within a secure virtual machine and does not have direct access to user passwords or payment data.
The company plans to extend similar restrictions to other AI agents, including those developed by Google and OpenAI. Amazon previously secured a court-ordered ban on Perplexity Comet agents to prevent them from interacting with its site.
Financial considerations drive these actions, as Amazon relies heavily on advertising revenue. Last year, the company generated $68 billion from sponsored ads, accounting for 10 percent of its total annual income.
