Akash Network has officially approved governance proposal #346, marking the transition of its AKT token from the Cosmos-based akashnet-2 chain to the Solana network. The project plans to retire its sovereign chain entirely, relaunching AKT as a native SPL token.

The conversion process will occur at a 1:1 ratio, maintaining the current total supply and 6 decimal places. A one-way migration portal will be available for token holders for a period of two years. Before the portal opens, the team expects a 2-3 week audit period for both the token and the migration infrastructure.

While the token migration is confirmed, the relocation of the Akash marketplace requires a separate governance vote. Once the marketplace transition is approved, existing workloads will continue to operate on the old chain for 90 days before it is permanently shut down.

The decision to migrate follows a selection process that began in December 2025 and concluded in August 2026. The team cited the concentration of DePIN projects and the liquidity of the Solana ecosystem as key factors for the move, with marketplace fees estimated at 0.075 SOL per day.
