Andrew Tulloch, an AI researcher, has left Meta after working there for less than a year. He announced his departure on September 9, 2026, without disclosing his future career plans.

In August 2025, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg attempted to rehire Tulloch. The proposed compensation package was valued at $1 billion, with the potential to reach $1.5 billion over six years depending on stock performance and bonuses.

Tulloch previously worked at Meta, then known as Facebook, in machine learning. In 2016, he declined an offer from OpenAI because the salary was significantly lower than his $800 thousand compensation at Facebook.

He eventually joined OpenAI in 2023 following the release of ChatGPT. In 2025, he moved to the startup Thinking Machines Lab before briefly returning to Meta.
