John Paul Ferrara, a former illustrator of romance novel covers, has returned to his creative work using artificial intelligence. The artist, who lost his vision following a brain tumor surgery in 2020, began experimenting with ChatGPT and Gemini in August 2025.
Ferrara leverages his professional background to craft detailed prompts covering lighting, color, composition, and character placement. Since he cannot view the generated images, he relies on caregivers to describe the results. His career includes over 1,000 covers and 20 awards from the Romance Writers of America.
Throughout his career, Ferrara worked on commercial projects for brands like Chopard and Oral-B, and his art appeared in Zink magazine and on True Romance slot machines. Currently, he focuses on spiritual themes and plans to showcase his new series in a virtual gallery, The Spirit From Within, on December 8, 2026.
