Developer Jacopo Attolini, known as Atol8 on Reddit, created an AI-powered bot capable of winning at the game Balatro. The system specifically targets the Gold Stake Black Deck, which is recognized as the most challenging combination in the title due to strict economic penalties and reduced hand sizes.

The bot utilizes OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra model to handle strategic decision-making during gameplay. To manage numerical calculations and verify move legality, the developer integrated Python scripts alongside a specialized tool called BalatroBot, which allows external software to interface with the game state.

While the bot has achieved repeated victories, users noted that it still makes occasional errors. This development follows previous attempts by AI models to master classic games, such as ChatGPT's performance in Atari Chess and Google Gemini's inability to initiate gameplay on the Atari 2600 console.
