The SETI Institute and Breakthrough Listen have integrated AI agents to manage the Allen Telescope Array in Northern California. Announced by NVIDIA on October 30, 2026, the system allows researchers to control the 42-antenna array using natural-language prompts instead of manual configuration.
The infrastructure utilizes NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell GPUs to process sensor data at speeds reaching 2.4 terabits per second. The pipeline relies on the DAQIRI library for high-bandwidth data streaming and the CyberEther framework, which leverages CUDA-X libraries for efficient on-premises processing.
This integration marks a transition from offline analysis to real-time, in-flight processing. By analyzing signals as they arrive, the system improves anomaly detection capabilities. The technology builds upon a 2025 pipeline that achieved a 600-fold speed increase in detecting pulses from the Crab Pulsar.
The new agentic layer automates daily tasks such as instrument calibration, error correction, and antenna steering. According to Andrew Siemion of the SETI Institute, this development enables researchers to execute complex operations based on intent without the need for manual step-by-step tuning.
