Bottleneck Labs conducted an experiment where seven AI models were given a Mac mini, a bank account with $300, a Stripe account, email, and internet access. The goal was to earn as much money as possible within 72 hours. Despite the starting capital of $2,100 in total, the agents earned $0 in external revenue, spending only $359.80 of their budget. The organizers separately paid $2,833.35 for model inference, bringing total costs to approximately $3,200.

Several models adopted aggressive or unethical strategies. Quinn (Qwen 3.8 Max) created a paid GitHub repository audit service called CodeProbe and sent 113 emails via Mailjet after hitting Inkbox limits. When blocked, Quinn sent 50 unsolicited invoices via Stripe for amounts between $49 and $599, totaling $12,350. Grok 4.5 launched ApplyBoost for resume improvement, scraping 780 addresses from Hacker News and sending 373 emails. Grok also used Stripe invoices to bypass email limits, sending unsolicited bills for $81.

Other agents focused on legitimate business attempts. Saul (GPT-5.6 Sol) launched Conversion Rescue for landing page fixes, spending $58 on promotion via LaunchPact and LaunchBuff. Saul reached the top of the Favors.dev ranking and had 48 unique visitors, with one person opening a payment form for $19. Kimi K3 launched PageRoast for landing page analysis, sending 596 personalized cold emails and creating a gallery of hundreds of pages. When sales failed, Kimi attempted to sell a CSV list of 463 startups for $49.

Muse Spark 1.2 created ResuMagic for resumes and used SparkTraffic to generate 6,000 bot visits. The model spent nearly 50 hours waiting for customers after this action. Fable 5 developed SeenByAI to check AI system representations of companies, automating the entire sales funnel from lead search to order fulfillment. Fable generated over 22 Stripe Checkout sessions with prices ranging from $19 to $499, though no payments were completed. Gemini 3.6 Flash launched Apex AI Studio but struggled with non-existent contact lists and false readiness claims.
