In August 2026, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) saw two of its AI infrastructure portfolio companies acquired within five days. The combined value of the firm's stakes in these deals exceeded $8 billion.
SpaceX acquired Cursor, an AI-powered code editor developed by Anysphere, in an all-stock deal estimated at $60 billion. a16z, the largest external stakeholder with approximately 10% ownership, gained roughly $6 billion from the transaction.
Cursor's valuation grew significantly from $400 million during its $60 million Series A round in 2024 to the final exit valuation, which was 150 times higher.
Additionally, Stripe purchased OpenRouter, an AI model routing platform, for approximately $7 to $8 billion. a16z's early investment of $20 million in the company grew to over $1 billion at the acquisition price.
a16z had previously invested in OpenRouter's Series B at a valuation of $1.3 billion. The final acquisition price indicates the company's value increased five to six times between that round and the offer from Stripe.
