1Password has introduced the 1Password for Agents platform, designed to allow AI agents to perform logins on behalf of users without accessing or storing their passwords or verification codes. The service is now available for individual and family plan subscribers.
The platform supports several major AI agents, including Meta Muse, OpenAI ChatGPT Work and Dots, Anthropic Claude Duet, and Grok Bot. This integration aims to secure account credentials while enabling AI to handle tasks like online shopping, booking, and data management.
When an AI agent encounters a login page, it must verify its identity using a unique digital key. The user then receives a notification on their device detailing the specific account and task requested. The user must manually approve or deny the request.
Upon approval, 1Password automatically fills in the credentials into the login form. The AI agent never gains access to the entire password vault, and all unapproved credentials remain protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring the agent only holds temporary access.
