YouTube Music has introduced a new labeling system to increase transparency regarding the use of generative AI in music production. Listeners can now see specific tags on the player page that detail how AI was utilized in the composition or vocal tracks.

Partners can categorize their content using three designations: Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, or No Gen AI. The Fully Gen AI label identifies tracks created entirely by artificial intelligence, while the Partly Gen AI tag denotes works that combine AI components with live elements. Tracks using standard pitch-correction tools like Auto-Tune are classified as No Gen AI.

YouTube developed this system in collaboration with music partners and through the deployment of internal detection tools. Unlike some competitors, the platform focuses on disclosure rather than restricting monetization for AI-assisted content. The company also continues to test its own AI-powered tools, such as Dream Track, which allows creators to generate music using AI-modeled voices.

The broader streaming industry is also addressing the rise of AI-generated content. Apple Music plans to launch its own transparency tags later this year, while Spotify already employs AI labels and spam filters. Other services like Deezer and TIDAL have implemented stricter policies, including the exclusion of AI-generated tracks from algorithmic recommendations and royalty payments.
