YouTube has introduced a conversational editing assistant powered by the Gemini AI model. The tool allows creators to trim clips, reorder frames, and sync music by typing natural language commands into a chat interface.
The assistant was announced on September 23, 2026, during the Made on YouTube event. It integrates directly into Shorts and the YouTube Create app, enabling users to generate initial rough cuts from raw footage.
This release follows the launch of the Edit with AI function in 2025. Alongside the new assistant, YouTube has introduced A/B testing for video cuts and updated its AI-powered comment moderation.
Data from August 2026 indicates that 72% of US video creators aged 14 to 44 utilized AI for content creation or editing within the previous year. By that same month, hundreds of thousands of channels were using Gemini-based features daily.
