YouTube has introduced 'Made with AI' labels for music tracks on YouTube Music and the main YouTube app, starting October 14, 2026. The system identifies songs where generative AI was used for core composition or performance, excluding minor technical edits like vocal cleanup or drum adjustments.

Partners must disclose AI usage through standardized metadata in DDEX or CSV files. Tracks are categorized into three groups: Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, or No Gen AI. If disclosure is missing, YouTube uses internal detection tools, which received significant updates in May 2026 to improve automated identification.

The labeling policy does not impact monetization or royalty frameworks for artists. Similar systems are being developed by competitors, including Apple Music, Spotify, and Deezer, as platforms seek to standardize transparency for synthetic content across the industry.
