Yangwang, the luxury division of BYD, has showcased its brake pedal assemblies following reports of component failures in the Maextro V800 luxury MPV. Zheng Yu, assistant general manager at Yangwang, demonstrated that the U7 sedan and U8/U8L SUV models utilize fully metal pedal arms and attachment bases made from stamped steel.

This design choice contrasts with the Maextro V800, which incorporates glass-fibre-reinforced polypropylene in its brake pedal base. Maextro, a brand within Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance, has committed to providing redesigned brake pedal brackets to current owners of the V800, which retails for ¥1 016 000 or $149 700.

Yangwang highlighted its internal development standards, noting that its brake pedals are designed to withstand a maximum force of 2 500 N. This specification surpasses the Chinese national requirement, which mandates that brake pedals must endure 2 000 N for 5 seconds without failure.

The brand also emphasized the capabilities of its e4 quad-motor platform, which supports independent wheel torque control and emergency regenerative braking. While Yangwang positions its vehicles in the same million-yuan price segment as the Maextro V800, the company did not confirm if its systems can detect specific brake pedal failures.
