Yandex has invested 1.8 ₽ billion into delivery safety initiatives, infrastructure, and the production of its proprietary e-bikes since 2023. The company launched mass production of the Yandex Bike in 2024, and there are currently over 35,000 units operating across 30 Russian cities.
The e-bikes feature integrated IoT modules that monitor location and enforce speed limits. The electric motor automatically cuts off at 25 km/h, with further restrictions of 15, 10, or 5 km/h in specific zones. Maintenance is supported by a network of over 40 bike centers, supplemented by more than 40 charging cabinets in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
In 2025, Yandex integrated a machine learning model into its routing system that accounts for traffic lights, intersections, pedestrian crossings, and road elevation. This update improves the accuracy of delivery time estimates. Additionally, the company has implemented mandatory road safety training for over 112,000 couriers, featuring video courses and sessions with traffic police experts.
Couriers are provided with reflective gear and receive accident insurance coverage during active shifts. The company also maintains a liability insurance program for third parties, which provides coverage payouts of up to 2 ₽ million.
