Microsoft has introduced a new Cloud Recovery feature for Windows 11, currently available to Windows Insider program participants. This tool allows users to reinstall the operating system directly from the cloud, bypassing the need for traditional USB installation media or local recovery images.
The new functionality is integrated into the Windows Recovery Environment. It enables a complete system restoration by downloading the latest Windows image and necessary device drivers directly from the Windows Update service. This process works even if the current operating system fails to boot.
The feature is currently included in Windows 11 beta build 26220.9343. While Microsoft has not provided a specific timeline for when this tool will be rolled out to the stable version of the operating system, it offers a significant alternative for critical system failures.
