Patrick Witt has resigned as executive director of the White House Crypto Council, also known as the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets. He confirmed his departure on October 14, 2026, and intends to transition to the private sector. Witt had held the position since August 2025, succeeding Bo Hines.
During his tenure, Witt focused on coordinating the administration’s digital asset agenda, including negotiations for the Clarity Act and the GENIUS Act. The Clarity Act, which aims to establish a federal framework for digital asset markets, passed the House over a year ago but remains stalled in the Senate due to failed procedural votes.
Witt’s resignation marks the third departure of a senior digital asset official from the White House in 2026. David Sacks left in March, followed by Harry Jung in July. No successor for Witt has been named, raising concerns regarding policy continuity while key legislative efforts remain unresolved in Congress.
