Jay Clayton, the Director of National Intelligence and newly appointed White House AI czar, has begun a series of meetings in Silicon Valley. This trip, announced on October 7, 2026, marks his first major engagement with the tech sector in his new capacity.
Clayton is scheduled to meet with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. These discussions occur as the administration initiates a 120-day review of AI risks and opportunities, which Clayton is overseeing as the leader of the newly formed Super Intelligence Force.
The task force includes members such as Vice President JD Vance and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. This initiative follows the White House Accord on Super Intelligence, a voluntary self-regulation pact signed by leading AI companies on September 29–30, 2026.
Clayton, who served as SEC chair from 2017 to 2020, advocates for a light-touch regulatory framework to maintain US leadership in AI. He was confirmed as Director of National Intelligence on July 28, 2026, by a 51-47 vote and took office on August 3, 2026.
