Warhound, a startup focused on cloning and gene-editing military working dogs, has emerged from stealth with $200 million in seed funding. The company is valued at $1.2 billion.
The startup was co-founded by Ben Lamm of Colossal Biosciences and Palmer Luckey of Anduril Industries. David Spirk, former chief data officer at the Pentagon, serves as the CEO.
The company plans to use gene-editing to improve performance and reduce health issues in Belgian Malinois and German Shepherds. Cloning will be handled by Viagen, a subsidiary of Colossal.
Warhound expects the first litter of cloned dogs in early 2027, with the animals entering service within two years. The company has not yet set a price for the dogs.
The funding round included investors such as Sequoia Capital, In-Q-Tel, ARK Invest, Franklin Templeton, 8VC, and Lux Capital. The company aims to sell to the Department of Defense and police forces.
