Walmart CEO John Furner issued a statement on September 25 addressing concerns regarding dynamic pricing. He confirmed that the company will not adjust prices based on individual consumer data, such as income, purchase history, or the urgency of demand.
The retailer faced criticism earlier this year after introducing electronic shelf labels in its stores. Critics, including the Groundwork Collaborative advocacy group, expressed concerns that this technology could be used to implement real-time price changes based on consumer behavior.
In response to these concerns, Walmart executives stated that electronic labels are updated only after store hours. The company maintains that the primary purpose of this technology is to reduce labor costs associated with replacing traditional paper price tags.
