Volkswagen Group of America has initiated a recall for 49,958 units of the 2025 Tiguan model due to a software defect in the body control module. The issue involves a configuration error in the fault control unit manager, which prevents the software from correctly processing error correction code faults. This can lead to an unexpected reset of the module while the vehicle is in motion.

The defect, which may cause the ignition system to shut down and potentially disable airbags during a collision, was first identified in a test vehicle in January 2025. The affected components were supplied by Continental. Volkswagen investigated the software coding flaws between March and June 2025 before the product safety committee finalized the decision to recall the vehicles in early September 2026.

The recall covers vehicles manufactured between March 24, 2025, and August 30, 2025. Volkswagen has already implemented a fix in the production line as of early September 2025. Owners can verify if their vehicle is included in the recall by checking their 17-digit VIN on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

To resolve the issue, Volkswagen dealerships will provide a free software update for all affected vehicles. The current software versions 0324 or 0325 will be upgraded to version 0326 or higher. The recall is officially registered under the number 26V587.
