ByteDance's Volcano Engine has officially launched the Doubao Cockpit Assistant, an AI-powered in-car system. The assistant integrates with the Doubao mobile app, allowing users to remotely control vehicle functions, check car status, and push navigation routes directly from their smartphones to the vehicle's infotainment system.
The system acts as a central processing unit for the vehicle, managing a full cycle of perception, decision-making, and execution. It can process hundreds of vehicle signals and interface with thousands of atomic capabilities, including navigation, driver assistance, and entertainment, to automate complex tasks.
The assistant features a persistent visual presence on the car screen, changing expressions based on conversation content. It supports multi-zone voice recognition, allowing passengers in any of the four zones to interact with the AI without needing to re-activate it. The system also stores user preferences and habits.
SAIC Motor is the first partner to implement this technology. The Roewe D7 is the debut model featuring the Doubao Cockpit Assistant, with pre-sales starting soon. Additionally, SAIC Audi plans to unveil models equipped with the new AI assistant later this year.
