Jon von Tetzchner, founder and CEO of Vivaldi, has publicly called for a ban on cryptocurrencies. He argues that the lack of regulation allows crypto firms to leverage their significant cash reserves to influence politicians, which he views as a direct threat to democratic processes.

The executive drew parallels between the crypto industry and the advertising models used by Big Tech. He noted that both sectors rely on data collection and targeted algorithms, which he previously criticized in 2021 as harmful to society. He believes these practices undermine democratic stability.

Von Tetzchner also commented on the artificial intelligence sector, noting that companies are now seeking regulation because they cannot independently curb potentially harmful practices. This mirrors his long-standing criticism of crypto, which he previously labeled a pyramid scheme in 2022.

His past critiques of the digital asset market focused on high volatility, the energy intensity of mining operations, and a lack of clear practical utility. These concerns remain central to his ongoing stance against the industry's current regulatory environment.
