Visa has launched a new initiative that integrates VisaNet settlement data with blockchain-based lending infrastructure. This project aims to provide working capital to FinTech companies and card programs linked to stablecoins by making settlement receivables observable and financeable in near real time.
The company reports that over 160 stablecoin-linked card programs operated on its network during the fiscal second quarter. These programs saw payment volume grow by nearly 200% year-over-year, with the annualized run rate for stablecoin settlement volume exceeding $20 billion, a 15-fold increase compared to the previous year.
By using verified settlement data as an underwriting input, lenders can assess risk more accurately. This approach allows for dynamic adjustments to credit facilities based on actual transaction flows, potentially reducing the need for excess collateral or prefunding that businesses typically require to cover settlement obligations.
Visa notes that the on-chain credit market is substantial, with over $694 billion in stablecoin-denominated loans processed through lending protocols since 2020. The new strategy seeks to bridge the gap between this digital liquidity pool and standard commercial payment activities.
This initiative represents a shift in how payment networks utilize transaction data. Instead of analyzing data after funds move, Visa is testing the use of payment information to determine future liquidity, embedding credit and treasury services directly into the transaction lifecycle.
