Vietnamese airlines have signed preliminary agreements with Airbus for the potential purchase of 55 passenger aircraft. The documents were formalized on September 10 at the Élysée Palace in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron and Vietnamese leader To Lam.
Vietnam Airlines signed a memorandum of understanding for five A350-900 wide-body jets, with deliveries expected between 2033 and 2034. The carrier is considering acquiring up to 30 wide-body aircraft in total following the year 2030 to modernize its long-haul fleet.
Vietravel Airlines signed a letter of intent for 50 aircraft, including 20 A220s and 30 A321neo family jets, such as the A321XLR. This deal could expand the airline's current fleet of five aircraft by more than tenfold, supporting network growth in Asia and the Middle East.
Airbus also entered into a maintenance and repair agreement with Vietjet Air for its existing A320 and A330 fleet. Previously, in May 2025, Vietjet placed an order for 20 A330-900 aircraft, a deal valued at approximately $8 billion.
