The Obsidian plugin Vault Audit AI has been rebranded as Veynrel. The update to version 1.8.0 allows existing users to upgrade without migrating data, re-entering API keys, or rebuilding the semantic index. The developer maintained backward compatibility by keeping legacy technical identifiers in environment variables and storage keys.

The project now includes a standalone Node.js service called Veynrel Companion, which maintains a persistent semantic mirror of the user's vault. This architecture ensures that only the Obsidian plugin writes directly to Markdown files, preventing data conflicts between the plugin and external AI agents.

Veynrel implements an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that provides seven specific tools, including vault status, note retrieval, and semantic search. Instead of granting AI models direct write access, the system uses a proposal mechanism where changes are stored as drafts for user review and approval via the Obsidian interface.

The semantic search architecture relies on a local SQLite database for storage, with optional support for Qdrant as a search accelerator. This design ensures that the canonical data remains accessible even if the secondary search service is disabled or removed.

The project has been split into two separate repositories: one for the Obsidian plugin and one for the Veynrel Companion service. This separation allows for independent development cycles, distinct dependency management, and improved CI testing, while resolving previous issues with mobile Obsidian environment compatibility.
