Valve has unveiled the Steam Frame, a standalone wireless VR headset designed for both streaming and native gaming. The device features a modular design with a front optical module weighing 185g and a total weight of 440g. It is equipped with dual 2160x2160 LCD screens, Pancake optics, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM.

The headset supports Wi-Fi 7 and offers a refresh rate of 72-120Hz, with an experimental 144Hz mode. It is intended to replace the discontinued Valve Index. Users can access the entire Steam library via streaming or play native titles, with over 100 games currently certified for standalone operation. Every purchase includes a free copy of Half-Life: Alyx.

The 256GB model is priced at $1,059. Valve has also introduced official accessories, including a 45W power adapter for $29, an ergonomic kit for $59, and a replacement parts kit for $49. These accessories are available exclusively to customers who have secured a purchase reservation.

Valve is managing sales through a lottery-based reservation system. Interested users must register for a chance to purchase. Notifications regarding reservation status will be sent on September 17, and the first purchase invitations will be issued on September 18. Waitlisted customers will be notified as additional inventory becomes available.
